Why do Carers and their families need access to their Federal and State Members of parliament?

Across Austalia there are around 2.9 million caring families. Their contributions to the welfare of people with a disability, mental illness and aged frailty is clearly irreplaceable.

Carers Australia's latest research paper by Access Economics tells us that Carers are now consevatively worth $40.9billion every single year. The governments of our nation are full of praise for the work that caring families do, but that praise is little more than lip-service because we all know that support services for carers and those for whom we care are scant at best.

It is very necessary for caring families to tell our elected representatives just how your lives are affected by caring without adequate help and support.

The best way for this to happen is for you to have access to a list of your Federal and State Members of parliament, which will give you the contact details you need to phone for an appointment, to write to local and federal members or to email them.

One thing is very clear to Carers, if we do not continually ask our elected members  of parliament to work to secure better support for carers and those we care for; the situation we are now in is not likely to change very much.
